Industrial Heritage and Experience Economy
- transformation, conservation and presentation of
former industrial landscapes
International Conference in Frederiksværk, the 5th and
6th of November 2009
Frederiksværk’s history is based on a large production
of guns and gunpowder, and later cast iron and steel.
The 250 years long and continuous history, led to an
appointment in 2007 as one of Denmark’s industrial
Heritage sites of National significance. The following
year we were appointed as one of only four
municipalities in Denmark where the local heritage is
used as a lever to raise the profile of the area and to
attract more citizens, business enterprises and of
course tourists.
Therefore, in November 2009, we are hosting a conference
funded by, The Heritage Agency of Denmark and The
Realdania Foundation. The Conference theme is:
Industrial Culture and experience economy, and the focus
will be on mutual exchange of experiences with regard to
the transformation, conservation and presentation of
former industrial landscapes.
The international Conference will be held in
Frederiksvaerk on Thursday the 5th and Friday 6th
November. The first day will mainly be directed towards
a public audience, while the second day is reserved for
politicians, government officials, opinion leaders,
media, interest groups etc.
We have invited colleagues from The Ruhr in Germany,
Ironbridge in England, Bergslagen in Sweden and a number
of experts in the experience economy. Also museum
directors from the rest of Scandinavia and Europe will
be invited.
In the course of the Conference we will discuss the
future for our common Industrial heritage? Will we be
able to create a sound economy? And will it be possible
to attract new groups of visitors and tourist?
You are of course welcome to contact the museum for
further information on the conference, accomodation and
plans of travel.
